Pierwsze podejście do farbowania // First attempt at dyeing

Pinterest is evil, it shows lots of pretty photos and tutorials, including shibori techniques. I have at home lots of unused white fabric of different kinds, and also a big enameled pot (also unused), and a packet of dye costs 4,20zł (about 1euro) in sewing-notions-shop (or 1zł from internet), so I decided to try.

The main problem with shibori tutorials is that they are for indigo, for which it's enough to dip the fabric for a few minutes. But my dye requires boiling the fabric in it for an hour. The dirty-grey t-shirt on the photo was once light grey, and I stitched it and tied as in tutorials, and then dipped in the dye and set aside to cool. Result: almost all dye washed out later and the results of tying are barely visible.
The four dark blots on the right are various test scraps, dyed according to instructions on the packet - boiled well. Result: very dark grey or "washed-out" black (the strip on the right edge of the photo is a piece of ready-made black fabric, for comparison) - but the color is even, the lighter hues are just light reflecting on crumpled fabric. The round blot on the top is a small skein of pearl cotton, formerly pink, now very acceptable almost-black.
I've already ordered more dye, in various colours. I'm also going to test some natural dyes...
